Social Procurement Working Group Update on Modern Slavery
The Social Procurement Working Group has been driving a proactive, industry wide response to the Modern Slavery Act (applicable to corporations with more than $100M revenue). Globally there are over 40 million people impacted, and we know that in Australia the high risk industries include cleaning and construction. To date we have completed a high level risk assessment of our supply chains and held workshops to prioritise where our efforts should be focussed to address the modern slavery risks. We are now planning a program of work to drive efficiencies across the sector and to deliver a consistent and coordinated approach from the Victorian Water Industry to manage these risks.
The team is currently collating data on activities underway in the respective water corporations in the areas of awareness/training, policies and guidelines, tools, communication and useful external resources.
If your Water Corporation has not been informed and/or involved to date, feel free to participate and get in touch with VicWater.
