North East Water announces new Managing Director

VicWater is welcomes the announcement of Jo Murdoch’s appointment of Managing Director. She will commence in the role in January 2022.

Ms Murdoch joins North East Water from Barwon Water, where she held an executive position leading the customer and community experience. Cath Botta, Chair of North East Water, is looking forward to welcoming Ms Murdoch in the new year.

She says: “The Board identified her servicing of regional communities and her focus on customer engagement as major strengths in the interview process. We are confident that Jo has the experience to lead North East Water’s evolution and will help guide the corporation through unprecedented regional growth and the impacts of climate change. We are looking forward to welcoming Jo to the Corporation early in the new year.”

Ms Murdoch is excited to be relocating to the north-east region of Victoria to take up the role. “It will be a great privilege to lead a skilled and talented team as it supports the health and prosperity of the region”, she said.

“I also look forward to engaging with local communities to continue to build trust and confidence in North East Water and the vital services it provides.”

Ms Murdoch will take over from long-serving Managing Director Craig Heiner, who leaves on 1 December, after 30 years at North East Water, and 13 years at the helm. Craig’s legacy includes major improvements to water quality across the region, the installation of drinking water and sewer systems to our smaller towns, and changes to environmental practices that will lead to a massive reduction of the Corporation’s carbon footprint.

VicWater extends our congratulations to Jo Murdoch on her appointment and we look forward to working with her in her new role.
