Wannon Water prepares for $40 million-plus upgrade to Warrnambool Sewage Plant
Wannon Water is about to embark on their largest ever infrastructure project – a $40 million-plus upgrade of the Warrnambool Sewage Treatment Plant.
In parallel with this project, Wannon Water will be developing a new Effluent Management Strategy for the plant. The strategy aims to identify alternatives for the disposal of wastewater from the plant which is currently discharged via an ocean outfall.
Options may include:
- Disinfection
- Recycling
- Tertiary treatment
- Optimising the existing ocean outfall design and location
- Retaining the existing outfall with additional treatment processes.
The strategy will be guided by a new reference group which includes up to three community representatives, and agency stakeholders. The group will provide advice and recommendations on the scope of the studies and the preparation of an evaluation report to the Wannon Water Board. The group is expected to take several years to complete its work.
Expressions of Interest are now being sought from local community representatives to participate in the reference group. Applications close Wednesday 15 June 2022 and applicants will be advised on the outcome by Friday 24 June 2022.
