Programs Update – September 2023
Cybersecurity is a hot topic at the moment, as it has been for a few years now, however as the threat landscape continues to evolve and change, we need to be constantly vigilant to potential attacks, which can be a little overwhelming and at times a little confusing.
VicWater has a Cyber Governance Steering Committee which is ably Chaired by Izzy Frederick from Southern Rural Water. They meet as required to discuss the cyber needs of water corporations and to work collectively to understand obligations, requirements and the Black Mirror moments that cause sleepless nights. Last meeting we were fortunate enough to have an update from David Cullen at DGS about work that is being undertaken at a whole of Victoria level, and also work being undertaken by DEECA which was more water-specific.
As water has a lot of infrastructure, one of the topics of interest is around operational technology (OT) and protecting our assets from a cyber-attack. We have been fortunate enough to work with Secolve, to develop an upcoming webinar called ‘Cyber Resilience in OT: An executive's guide to fluid cyber defence’, which will be held on 13 October 2023 from 12 – 1 pm.
This will be presented by Nick Rodofile from Secolve. Nick is a Brisbane based security consultant with a background in offensive and defensive cyber operations including OT / SCADA cyber attack analysis and cyber incident response. This webinar will be informative covering all things OT for those people who may not be 100% sure what this OT business is about but are interested in learning more. More information will be available on our website shortly, but if you are interested in registering you can do so here.
