Dr Jane Doolan

Dr Jane Doolan was appointed a Commissioner with the Productivity Commission in December 2016.

Jane has extensive senior leadership experience working in sustainable water resource and environmental management, providing policy advice to both State and Commonwealth governments on issues such as urban and rural water supply and security, national water reform, water allocation and river and catchment management and water sector governance.

Jane has also worked in State government on environmental programs and policies, participating in intergovernmental policy development and negotiations; particularly in relation to the management of the Murray-Darling Basin, plus the oversight of environmental water projects. Jane has strong relationships with the academic sector, with a particular focus on integrating state-of-the-art environmental science with water policy and management.

Previously held positions include Commissioner with the National Water Commission, Professorial Fellow in Natural Resource Governance at the University of Canberra and Deputy Secretary for Water in the Victorian Department of Environment and Primary Industries.

Jane is currently a director at Southern Rural Water and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Canberra. Jane has a doctorate in zoology, and a degree in science (honours) from the University of Melbourne.
