Patricia Karvelas will facilitate the 'Returning to Traditions: Managing Country for Resilience and Readiness' session
Patricia Karvelas is a prominent and highly respected award-winning Australian journalist, television and radio host, podcaster, political journalist, and commentator.
Having reported on Indigenous affairs for more than 10 years, Patricia is a passionate ally for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. Her professional experience in this area means she is a natural choice to facilitate the session 'Returning to Traditions: Managing Country for Resilience and Readiness'.
Patricia began her professional career at the ABC and SBS 20 years ago, and has since worked with every medium across the Australian media landscape.
She currently presents Radio National’s (RN) flagship radio current affairs program RN Drive—a role she took up in January 2015.
In 2019, Patricia began anchoring a daily program on ABC News TV called Afternoon Briefing, which aims to explain and explore daily national affairs news through cut-through interviews, panels and her own pointed commentary. The show features in-depth interviews with influential Australians.
Patricia also co-hosts the ABC’s popular and premier weekly political podcast — The Party Room with Fran Kelly. She previously hosted and produced the program Karvelas on Sky News, as well as National Wrap on ABC newsweekly programs which focused on federal affairs and policy.
Patricia has also worked in several senior roles in print media, working for The Australian newspaper where she was the paper’s political correspondent in the Canberra press gallery. She was also employed as the Australian's Victorian Bureau Chief and Editor, and Senior National Affairs Journalist.
Patricia frequently appears on a range of television and radio programs across the ABC.
