Managing Director, Thermal Hyperformance
Dr Matt Brearley will present at Connect 2021 in the Leadership & Innovation stream. He will speak on the topic of heat stress in the workplace. His presentation ‘Heat stress: impacts of climate change on outdoor roles’, will challenge several common heat stress management practices. Based on the latest evidence, this session will deliver a pragmatic overview of how heat impacts the health and safety of workers, with region and industry specific insights. In doing so, several common heat stress management practices will be challenged, providing attendees with the knowledge and practical strategies to mitigate the impact of heat on their workforce.
An expert in his field, Matt is a thermal physiologist and is Australia’s pre-eminent occupational heat stress consultant, conducting and applying research to guide industry practice.
Commencing his career in elite sport settings, Matt previously worked for the Northern Territory Institute of Sport and National Heat Training and Acclimatisation Centre and was the heat specialist for the Australian team in the lead up to, and during the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. In 2018 he was awarded the Exercise Scientist of the Year, and throughout his career has assisted a wide range of industries to quantify the physiological impost of working in the heat and examine mitigation strategies in the field to maximise worker health, safety and performance.
