Draft Native Vegetation Code of Practice
In August 2009 a Cultural Heritage and Native Vegetation event was organised by VicWater and government for water corporation staff. As a result of that event, the attendees indicated an interest in forming a working group to develop an industry wide Native Vegetation Code of Practice. The working group was coordinated by VicWater with representatives from; Barwon Water, East Gippsland Water, Goulburn-Murray Water, Melbourne Water, South East Water and Wannon Water and a representative from DSE. The working group met on a number of occasions and produced the a Draft Native Vegetation Code of Practice. This Draft Code was approved by the VicWater Board and endorsed by the Secretary of DSE.
It is recommended that each water corporation work towards getting the Draft Code formally incorporated under the Victorian Planning Scheme for your area and formally adopted within your business by completing the following steps:
- Complete a documented consultation process with the Councils and other stakeholders in your area to ensure agreement to work under the Code. Please see attached for some suggested steps to be carried out as part of this consultation phase.
- Seek endorsement from the Secretary of DSE for any amendments to the Draft Code to suit local needs and to incorporate proposed changes received from the consultation process.
- Present the final Draft Code, along with documented evidence of the consultation process to the Minister for Planning requesting the necessary amendment to the Victorian Planning Scheme be made for your area.
