VicWater Guidance Note for Determining Dwelling Density when Assessing Planning Permit Applications

To assist water corporations to calculate dwelling density in a more consistent way  the VicWater Catchment Task Group has developed a VicWater Guidance Note which recommends a consistent approach to the calculation of dwelling density within catchments when using the 1km radial method.

The 1km radial method is the preferred method used by most water corporations and has been tested and supported in numerous VCAT cases. It is also acknowledged that there are other methods that can and in some circumstances are used such as average dwelling density across the whole of  catchment.  The approach taken is really a matter for each water corporation to consider in the context of their catchments and the relative risks within that catchment.
