As 2022 draws to a close, in some ways it seems like we’re ending the year as we began it, with COVID case numbers on the rise again. Add to this the ongoing flood situation in central and northern Victoria, along with extreme weather events elsewhere in the state, and we could be forgiven for feeling that this has been (another) year of doom and gloom.
But if there is one thing we’ve learned from the recent past, it’s that the Victorian water sector continues to demonstrate impressive levels of competence and resilience in providing essential services to their customers and supporting their local communities, while also looking after the safety, health and wellbeing of their people. This is truly something for the whole sector to be proud of, and at VicWater we feel privileged to play a role in supporting the sector to be “better together”.
I would like to thank all our members, sponsors and partners for their continued support and their willingness to contribute their time and expertise to the many events, projects and initiatives we’ve run during the year. Successful industry collaboration relies on a lot of voluntary effort and good will, and we are fortunate at VicWater to work with so many passionate and purposeful people who genuinely want to make a positive difference to the community.
Finally I would also like to acknowledge and thank the wonderful VicWater team – and we are small enough that I can mention them all by name – Stuart Craven, Tara Daniel, Linna Fang and Lauren Vines. They have all worked with great diligence and enthusiasm to see us through yet another busy and eventful year.
I wish everyone a safe and happy festive season, and I look forward to seeing you in 2023!
