In April 2025, several of Australia’s leading super funds were subject to a cyber security attack which saw members’ accounts being compromised. Vision Super was not targeted, but it’s a good opportunity to remind our members to remain vigilant online.

Initial investigations suggest that the affected funds did not have multi-factor authentication (MFA) in place to protect all member accounts. By contrast, Vision Super has MFA enabled for all member accounts, including those recently transferred from Active Super.

You can never be too careful though. Scammers and fraudsters are always looking for ways to steal personal and financial information. So below are our top 5 tips to protecting yourself and your money.

1. Use strong passwords

A weak password is like leaving your front door open for scammers. Always use a strong, unique password or, even better, a passphrase like MyD0g$t1nk$, for your online accounts and never share it with anyone else. Another alternative is to use a password manager that will create highly complex passwords and remember them for you.  It is important to use unique passwords for each of your accounts.

Enabling MFA where available will provide an extra layer of additional security.

2. Think before you click

Scammers often send fake emails and text messages pretending to be banks or government agencies, trying to trick you into clicking malicious links. If you receive an unexpected message about your super, do not click any links or open attachments. Instead, contact Vision Super directly on 1300 300 820 to verify the request.

3. If something feels wrong report it

Scammers rely on confusion and a sense urgency. If you receive a suspicious call, email, or message about your Vision Super account, stop and verify it. Report any potential scams on your Vision Super account to us immediately on 1300 300 820, or submit a scam report to Scamwatch or the Australian Cyber Security Centre.

4. Protect your data like you protect your money

Your personal and financial information is extremely valuable to hackers, so keep it safe. Regularly check your Vision Super account for any unusual activity and avoid logging into your account on public Wi-Fi.

If Vision Super calls you to discuss any aspect of your super, our number will come up on your phone as 03 9911 3222 and you will have the option to return the call via our main contact centre number.

5. Be discreet

Be cautious about what information you share in public or on social media, particularly when it comes to your super or finances. Scammers can use seemingly harmless information like your birthdate or email address to steal your identity. If you suspect your personal details have been compromised, contact Vision Super immediately and visit idcare.org for expert advice on identity theft protection.

At Vision Super, we have an advanced cyber security system in place to keep your accounts safe. If you have any concerns, or you think your account may have been compromised, please contact our Member Services team on 1300 300 820.
