Barwon Water has announced the appointment of Shaun Cumming as the organisation’s Managing Director after an extensive and rigorous recruitment process.

Barwon Water Chair Jo Plummer said she and the Barwon Water board had unanimously agreed that Mr Cumming was the person to take Barwon Water forward.

“It is with absolute delight that I announce and welcome, on behalf of the Board, Shaun Cumming officially to the role of Managing Director for the next five years. Shaun’s vision, leadership, passion and care shone through at every stage of the recruitment process, which shortlisted six outstanding candidates.”

Ms Plummer said that Shaun, who has been in the role of Interim MD since the departure of Tracey Slatter to the TAC in June, has been an integral part of the Executive Leadership Team at Barwon Water for the last six years.

“Shaun has made a significant contribution towards our Strategy 2030 goals through his extensive experience in operations, construction, business development, program delivery and transformation over a 25-year career in the water industry.”

Ms Plummer said Mr Cumming is an exceptional leader who is trusted and respected by a broad range of Barwon Water’s external stakeholders.

“The Board is very confident that Shaun is the right person to advance the delivery of Strategy 2030 and the 2023 Price Submission to progress our commitments to our community and customers.”

Mr Cumming said he was proud to have been appointed and looked forward to delivering on Barwon Water’s aim to enable regional prosperity.

“I look forward to building on the work we’ve already done to broaden our mindset from water utility to enabler of regional prosperity across cultural, social, environmental and economic dimensions. Barwon Water is uniquely placed to support a thriving community, deliver a sustainable water future and help drive new opportunities in the circular economy,” Mr Cumming said.

“I’ll focus on nurturing relationships, ensuring we deliver value in partnership with our customers, community, Traditional Owners and stakeholders and continue to innovate for positive change,” Mr Cumming said.

Ms Plummer said Barwon Water had made huge strides in recognising its key role in driving regional prosperity, caring for customers and addressing the considerable challenges of climate change and population growth.

“We are in a great position to continue to lead, innovate, partner and find ways to solve problems facing our region.”

Ms Plummer said Mr Cumming would be a champion for diversity, inclusion and safety leading by example in fostering a high performing culture.

“I’m confident under Shaun’s leadership, our employees’ care, skill and dedication to the delivery of Strategy 2030 will ensure we progress our commitments to our community and customers.”
