Key projects from Central Highlands Water (CHW) were judged alongside Australia’s best water projects at the Australian Water Association (AWA) National Water Awards recently.

CHW competed across two categories, highlighting an ongoing commitment to customers, community and the environment.

CHW national finalists include:
•  Infrastructure Project Innovation Award – Beaufort Reuse for Recreation
•  Customer Experience Award – Operational Change, Customer Impact: Quarterly Billing Implementation

Beaufort Reuse for Recreation supports community wellbeing and climate change adaptation, both central to the project.

This integrated water management project is now sustainably reusing water to improve playing surfaces for multiple community recreation, sporting and educational facilities in Beaufort.

Operational Change, Customer Impact: Quarterly Billing Implementation detailed our transition to quarterly billing, and the cashflow and household budget management benefits this offers customers.

Our shift from triannual to quarterly billing followed consultation with over 1,000 local community members and was delivered as part of our customer-first culture.

The AWA awards are an excellent opportunity to recognise the many achievements of individuals and organisations across the water industry.

The water industry collectively strives to improve outcomes for communities and the environment. These awards showcase the critical and creative thinking of the experts in their field, to achieve positive results for all.

At CHW we pride ourselves on being More than Water and to be a finalist in two categories at a national level is testament to the broad impact we are making across the Central Highlands region.

We congratulate all finalists, and offer a special mention to those announced as winners in the above categories, Healthy Coorong, Healthy Basin On-Ground Works – Lake Hawdon North Project (Department for Environment and Water, Leed Engineering and Construction, Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water and other contributing organisations) and Future Water Story: Shaping WaterSmart Communities Through Immersive Learning (Melbourne Water).

The AWA awards showcase innovation, leadership, infrastructure and inspiring positive change to drive a sustainable water future and were held at Ozwater’26 in Brisbane on Wednesday 27 May.
