Stage two of Central Highlands Water’s Creswick Rising Main replacement began in January, with important protections in place for the resident Growling Grass Frog population at an existing evaporation lagoon, which was previously part of the decommissioned Creswick Wastewater Treatment Plant.

As part of Central Highlands Water’s planning and due diligence, a dedicated frog survey was completed last September, confirming the species is still present at the site. The Growling Grass Frog is listed as Vulnerable under state, national and international conservation frameworks.

Following this, a Conservation Management Plan was developed and is now being implemented as part of their project’s Construction and Environmental Management Plan.

This plan guides how they protect and enhance the habitat and population through practical measures. Helping maintain numbers, support successful breeding, and reduce threats such as predation, vehicle impacts and the spread of disease.
